Matthew Guggemos is a communication scientist, speech-language pathologist, and technologist dedicated to exploring the potential of AI and multi-sensory experiences to enhance learning, education, and communication interventions for neurodivergent individuals. As the co-founder and CTO of iTherapy, Matthew leads the development of advanced AI-driven solutions that empower individuals across the communicative spectrum. iTherapy's flagship product, InnerVoice, has been recognized for its novel approach to communication support. Matthew is a member of Redwood Empire Mensa.
Matthew's work is informed by his diverse background, which includes performing and recording as a drummer with various groups and renowned musicians. This unique blend of expertise has inspired projects like Drum Language, which explores the interplay between rhythm, language, and learning. Beyond iTherapy, Matthew co-owns and co-publishes Autism Digest, a publication now in its 25th year, allowing him to share insights and engage in meaningful discussions about communication development, evidence-based practices, and the intersection of technology and autism.
As someone living with Tourette syndrome, Matthew is deeply connected to the neurodivergent community and is driven to create inclusive technologies and advocate for their use. In March 2024, he spoke at the conference "Exploring the Bidirectional Relationship between Artificial Intelligence and Neuroscience," sharing his vision for instrumentive AI's potential to augment human capabilities and improve lives in healthcare and education. Matthew is an active member of the American Society for AI and remains engaged in discussions shaping the future of technology in therapeutic contexts.
When not immersed in the world of technology and communication, Matthew can be found practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, downhill skiing, and drumming -- activities intertwined with his study of skill learning and improvisation mechanisms.
